Thomas Urquhart MacRae (1892-1993), known to family and friends as 'Tommy', was born at Balachuirn on the Isle of Raasay, on the 8th of December 1892. His great-grandfather and family had lived in Suisinish, on the Isle of Skye, but had been evicted during the time of the infamous Highland Clearances. The family settled in Raasay. This booklet follows the life of Thomas MacRae from his childhood and early adult life experiences on that island and his subsequent experiences on the battlefields of World War I, and on to married life in Glasgow and Dumbarton. He was a highly regarded Christian, being a member and, later, Elder in the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland.
