William MacLean was born in 1907 into a Free Church family. He relished the faithful ministry of the Rev. Neil Cameron in the Glasgow congregation of the Free Presbyterian Church becoming a member in the Ness congregation in 1935. In 1948 he was called to be minister of this congregation. Subsequently in 1962 he accepted a call to the Gisborne NZ congregation. In this capacity he preached extensively throughout the denomination around the world. His ministry throughout the world was greatly blessed to the conversion and edification of sinners. He faithfully opposed error in every shape and form particularly during the Geering controversy in New Zealand.
